12 July 2005 : about this life.

it's one of those summer evenings that comes along so infrequently that you forget it exists, unless you live in san francisco.

one of those summer evenings during which the humidity makes you feel sexy, despite the growing circumference of your carefully straightened hair.

skin dewy, not sticky, reaching out to siphon as much moisture as possible from the almost chilly air before you head in for the night. skin that reminds you of being in bed for a reason other than sleeping, the world around you colored green and then blue.

a suprising compliment, a tight hug, a mixture of confusion and bubbles - the kind that come out of you as laughter. a few sprinkles of rain on your face and bare arms as you sip coffee and wait for something exciting to happen, just this once. next time, you think, you'll go someplace new - you could meet someone, exchange smiles with someone, make eye contact and get that little thrill, if only you could make yourself go out looking for excitement in a place you don't spend five nights a week.

but its one of those nights, and even though you've been secretly wishing for perfect blue autumn for the last several days, you cut your losses and thank summer for giving you a perfect hour alone with the sounds of your city's traffic.

this is the kind of hopeful you can deal with. it's not so scary, really, once you get into it.
